Perfect Weather for a Katahdin Hike

I recently hiked Mount Katahdin as part of a spectacular wedding weekend in Northern Maine. This was my 16th summit of Katahdin, and each time has been a new and different experience, even if I may take the same routes up/down. I hiked with approximately 12 other hikers as part of the wedding group.

The hiking route started from Roaring Brook to Chimney Pond, up Cathedral Trail, and down Saddle Trail to return to the vehicle at Roaring Brook. All in all, it was about 11 miles and took approximately 9 hours with 4000 feet of elevation gain.

The weather on this particular day was perfect – not too hot, not too cold, just right. We started out with temps around 50 degrees, but they quickly got up to 70+, even on top of the mountain. My last few summits of Katahdin have been either wet, slippery and cold, or too hot. Looking forward to my next summit, maybe next time it’ll be a winter adventure and I can complain about the snow.
