From Web to Print: WordPress as the Center of Your Print Publication Workflow
Many higher ed publications such as alumni magazines, annual reports, and course catalogues are created for both web and print. Publishing for both web and print often introduces inefficient workflows and frustrations keeping both versions up-to-date as information is updated between the web CMS and InDesign. Learn how WordPress can be extended to serve as the center of your print publication workflow. We’ll look at how Maine Today Media was able to completely change their 4 daily newspapers to be an efficient web-first workflow that allows their print designers to easily import data directly from WordPress into InDesign for print newspaper layouts.

This talk was given at WordCamp Europe with over 2,000 conference attendees. The wp_options database table is the center of all WordPress websites. It stores critical site data and is used on nearly every page in WordPress. However, it’s also very easy for the wp_options table to slow your site to a grinding halt. PechaKucha is a type of storytelling presentation where the presenter has 20 slides and spends 20 seconds on each slide telling a story of their choosing. I told my story about how I balance the natural and plugged-in parts of my life to ensure technology doesn’t take over my life and I spend time to appreciate the important parts of life like being outdoors and being with humans.
